7.2 Notes: Two Types of Eukaryotic Cells Organelles and their functions
Animal Cells
3
Plant Cells
4
Cell or Plasma Membrane “bilayer”
Function: Regulates materials entering and leaving the cell Found in: Both
5
Cytoplasm “Jelly Fluid”
Function: Surrounds and protects the organelles Found in: Both
6
Lysosome “Recycle Centers”
Function: Breaks down and recycles cell parts Found in: Both
7
Cytoskeleton “Weblike”
Function: Helps maintain cell shape Found in: Both
8
Golgi Apparatus or Bodies “Stack of Soggy Pancakes”
Function: Modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and lipids. Found in: Both
9
Centriole “Salt and Pepper”
Function: Organize cell division Found in: Animal Only
10
Nucleus “Control Center”
Function: Contains DNA, controls cell activities. Found in: Both
11
Nucleolus “Mini Control Center”
Function: Makes Ribosomes Found in: Both
12
Mitochondrion “Power Plant”
Function: Converts food into energy. Found in: Both
13
Ribosomes (On Rough ER and Free) “Rib-O-Somes”
Rough on ER Function: Makes Proteins. Found in: Both
14
Endoplasmic Reticulum “ER”
Function: Assembles proteins & lipids then transports. Chemical Reactions. Found in: Both
15
Chloroplast “Green Beans”
Function: Converts sunlight into food. Found in: Plants only.
16
Cell Wall “The Wall” Function: Supports and protects. Found in: Only Plants.
17
Vacuole “eggs and toast”
In animal & Plant Cells Only in Plants Function: Storage; Large in Plants stores water. Found in: Small in Both; Large only Plants
18
Main differences between Plant and Animal Cells:
Found only in Plant Cells: Cell Wall Chloroplast Large Vacuole Found Only in Animal Cells: 1. Centrioles
