1. A Research Exploration: Lawyers
I. Birth: Create basic, yet informative timeline, starting at high school graduation, for a student who is hoping to pursue a career in the law. Be sure to include any significant “gateways” or “mileposts” that this student will have to complete or pass in order to accomplish their goal.
II. Life: Using the NC Bar Association website ( review the codes and policies regarding advertising, client contacts, and solicitation of new clients. (Rules 7.1 – 7.5) Then, locate the powerpoint presentation which contains Legal Ad examples and review the ads provided (see blackboard). Choose three of the ads, create a title for each, and draft a brief critique which discusses both your personal views on the ad as well as any professionally questionable content were these ads to run in NC.
III. Death: Find two current events articles (cnn.com, msnbc.com, local papers, law journals, etc…) that discuss the disbarring of a lawyer. For each article, you need to provide the following: A.) Summary including which explain the incident and/or series of actions that led to the lawyer’s disbarring. B.) A personal commentary on the case.
