Describe the problem (state the core question you address throughout the study)
Give a synopsis of the findings
“Sell” the study on at least two points
Provide a brief overview of the study’s scope (say what you’re going to say)

3. Presentation Outline Structure your presentation-how will things go
List out the different parts of your presentation
Be clear to the audience what you hope to do
Use action words to describe your agenda (list out a shell of what you aim to say)

4. Foundation
State the purpose as wanting to address the problem—your unanswered question
List your hypotheses (short and conceptual)
Describe how you went about selecting your problem and state why you chose it
Make clear what it is you’re doing and why you picked what you did to say

5. Related Work Provide a context for the presentation
State what others have done on this problem
Draw links to research where applicable
Describe how the problem fits in with other efforts in the field have said and done

6. Methods
Describe design (survey, experiment, observation, content analysis…)
Explain why you chose it
Describe data (N, unit of analysis, process)
Describe the key variables in the analysis
Say how you gathered your evidence

7. Results Start with a slide profiling the sample
Present one slide per hypothesis
Include results that don’t support your hypothesis as well or that aren’t statistically significant either
Be simple and clear--they are key—don’t try to combine too much together

8. Summary Reinforce what your message is
Provide a recap of what your results found or suggest
Say in a digestible manner what the data you collected mean

9. Recommendations Point out any shortcomings of this study
Suggest what the next study should do or address
Say of what use (theoretical, methodological, or policy) this study has

10. Invitation for Critical Thinking
Mention the value of this study
Say where/how this study might be used
Ask for comments from the audience (“what comments do you have?”)
Say what the benefits of this study are and then entertain ideas from others what their take is
