Section 1 and 2 Review Window Partner – summarize part 1 Door Partner – summarize part 2 Window – what is logical in part 1? Door – what is logical in part 2? Together: What seems to be Faubus’s bias and hidden agenda based on parts 1 and 2?

How does Faubus’s tone change in part 3?
What is the cause for the unrest and possible violence, according to Faubus in part 3? Is this a logical cause? Why or why not? Remember to look at how Faubus is setting up the showdown at Little Rock as a power struggle between the federal and state governments. He includes the voting tallies to show that the PEOPLE of Arkansas want the State to prevent the federal government from forcing the people to do (namely, integrate the Little Rock public schools). The Federal government does win this fight because the State is not within the Federal Constitution as the Supreme Court rules it.

Part 4 How does Faubus’s tone change in part 4? What is Faubus’s goal in part 4? Is this goal logical? Why or why not?

His message (more or less) is that integration cannot be forced onto the people of the state by the federal government. It is a state and local issue and there must be time given to see which law will be upheld by the courts – the State or the Federal government. Instructions
