STEM Fair Projects
2
Choose a Question Must be written as a question
Should be interesting to the student. Has to be testable You will be able to complete in the required time.
3
Title Choose a title that reflects your topic and is creative and catchy. MAKE THE PROJECT STAND OUT! Big enough for Judges to read from far away.
4
QUESTION Write 1 to 3 sentences describing what you want to find out in this project. Example: The purpose of this project is to find out if a pea plant will grow taller when given caffeine rather than water
5
Research should be designed to get background information about your topic, before you begin your experiment Develop 3 questions that you want to answer about your topic. Example: Is caffeine a stimulant? How often should plants be watered? Other than water, are there other liquids people use to water their plants? Try to use various sources for your research. Suggested sources: Books Magazines Newspapers Internet
6
Hypothesis Make a guess to the previous question you wrote.
This is how you think your experiment will turn out, before you even try it. Example: “ If I __________ then I think _____” will happen BECAUSE_______
7
List Your Materials Make a complete list of everything you will use in your experiment. Tell how many and how much of each object used. GOOD IDEA TO TAKE PHOTOS OF YOUR MATERIALS OR DISPLAY THEM FOR THE JUDGES THE DAY OF THE FAIR.
8
Procedure Write down step-by-step directions on how to do your experiment. Sequential and detailed Include exact measurements, recording data, repeating procedure, find averages, etc.
9
Do your experiment. Have fun ! Take pictures of you doing the actual experiment NO Animals, No Dangerous Chemicals, No flames, No Weapons, No tests allowed on Human subjects
10
Collect Data : Display data using photographs, drawings, journal entries, charts, tables, and line, bar or pie graphs. This is the proof and information of what happened in your experiment. DO 3 Trials and FIND THE AVERAGE!!!!!
11
Conclusion Write down what you learned from doing this experiment, include if your hypothesis was correct or incorrect. “My Hypothesis was ____________. I learned that ______________________.” You can write what you would do different if you did the experiment again. “Next time, I would ______________ to my experiment, to see what happens.”
12
RESULTS Write a few sentences to explain your results. Possibilities include: Averages in ascending or descending order Range of data (difference from highest to lowest)
13
Make Your Board Start your information on the top left panel of the board, move down the left panel, across the middle panel, and from the top down on the right panel. Place pictures of your experiment on your board. (YOUR FACE CAN NOT BE IN THE PHOTOS)
