Chapter 8 Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
Lesson 8-3b Solving Systems Equations by Elimination
4
Objective: Students will solve real world word problems involving solving systems of equations using elimination. The students will complete a practice test on sections 8-1 to 8-3 individually in class.
5
Geometry Find an equation of the line with slope m = -3 and passing through the intersection of the lines x + 6y = 26 and 5x -2y = -15. 4x + 6y = 26 + 15x - 6y = -45 Write the equation, use y = mx + b. m = -3 and (x, y) = (-1, 5) 5 = -3(-1) + b 19x = -19 5 = 3 + b x = -1 b = 2 4(-1) + 6y = 26 m = -3 and b = 2 6y = 30 Answer: The equation is y = -3x + 2. y = 5 So, the line with slope m = -3 passes through (-1, 5).
