The method Measure the diameter of the tube using a callipers and calculate the correction factor 0.3d. Strike the highest frequency (512 Hz) tuning fork and hold it above the mouth of the tube. Slide the tube slowly up until the loudest note is heard. Tighten the clamp in this position and measure the length of the air column with a metre stick. Add the correction factor to the length and multiply by 4 to get the wavelength. Calculate the wavelength using c=f λ where f is the frequency written on the fork. Repeat using various forks and the average value for the speed of sound.

Precautions Repeat and find an average.
Avoid parallax when measuring the length.
