1 Conversions within the Metric System

2 The Metric System Types of Measurement
Mass – the property of body that causes it to have weight in a gravitational field. Volume - the amount of 3 dimensional space occupied by an object. Length – the linear extent in space from one to end to the other. Temperature – the degree of hotness or coldness of a body or environment.

4 Group these units as measures of mass, volume, length, or temperature.
gram, millilitre, centimetre, litre, metre, Celsius, kilogram, kilometre, milligram, millimetre, dekagram Mass Length Volume Temperature gram kilogram milligram dekagram centimetre metre kilometre millimetre millilitre litre Celsius

5 grams, Liters, meters When finding or calculating mass use grams.
When finding or calculating volume use litres. When finding or calculating length use metres .

6 Match the item with the appropriate units of measure.
a.) Mass of a paper clip 1.) 1 mL b.) Width of finger nail 2.) 1 cm c.) Mass of a liter bottle of water. 3.) 1 g d.) Amount of liquid in an eyedropper 4.) 1 m e.) Length of a baseball bat 5.) 1 km f.) A ten minute walk 6.) 1 mm g.) Thickness of a dime 7.) 1 kg

7 Measure the length of each line to the nearest millimeter.
