5. The United States Government is made up of three separate and equal branches each with their own powers.
Legislative – Makes Laws
Executive – Enforces Laws
Judicial – Interpret Laws
Separation of Powers

6. No single branch of government has much more power than the other two = balanced.
Each branch was given powers to check or STOP the other two.
This idea here was to prevent any of the branches from becoming too strong.

Senate
435 members based on each states population
Represent the people who live in their districts
Resident of the US for 7 years
Must be 25
100 members – 2 per state
Represent their entire state
Resident of the US for 9 years
