Legislative they make the laws Executive they carry out the laws Judicial judge laws & interpret constitution

3 Conservative How they do things: believe in personal responsibility
limited government free markets individual liberty traditional American values and a strong national defense

4 Liberal How they do things:
believe in government action to achieve equal opportunity – equality for all protect civil liberties and individual and human rights

5 Article Legislative Branch
House of Rep. terms 2 years Qualifications 25 years old citizen 7 years resident of state 435 people Leader: Speaker of the House

Senate 100 total terms 6 years Qualifications 30 years old 9 years of citizen Resident of state Leader: vice president

7 State & Local NC Constitution - explains how state government work
Declaration of Rights -limit power of state government & protect people’s right Separation of Powers -Legislative- makes state laws Check & Balance -each branch can cancel out each other

8 Judicial Branch Original Jurisdiction (O.J.) 

9 State Court Cases State vs. Mann- established the state constitution supreme law of state Leandro vs. NC- sound & basic education

10 Propaganda Techniques
Bandwagon- makes himself look like a winner Glittering Generalities- using symbol, signs, songs, etc; to stand out Testimonial- a celebrity supports a candidate Plain Folks- a candidate makes himself look like a regular person Name Calling- saying negative things about another candidate Card Stacking- present one side of the story

11 Political Process Primary Election
-choose a candidate to represent party in presidential election -indirectly choosing delegates National conventions Officially choose candidate to president party Adopt Party Platform -overall views of the party

12 Voting Voting Requirements Must be 18 years old
Must have serve time for felony Must be citizen
