PAGE 281 Objective: To analyze possible motifs in both novels. Question: What are some repeated symbols, or motifs, in either novel?

Lit Circle Discussions (Page 282)
Instructions: Answer the following questions on page 282 in short paragraphs. (4-6 sentences) Take 15 minutes to complete this. Discussion Questions: How do the characters react and deal with authority figures in their lives? (Teachers, Co-Workers, Student Peers, and/or Parents) How do the character’s identities (racial and class distinctions) affect their personal relationships with other characters?

Discussion Director: Discuss the two focus questions. Review your three vocabulary words. Have other group members copy down the words and definitions on their vocabulary list. (8 Minutes)
