3. Clocking
Clocking is an editing technique in which your partner(s) make on one set of corrections at a time
Number each line of your essay on the LEFT side
You will sit across from another student and trade papers
Next, you will edit each other papers for the one skill
When time is called, trade back papers
The designated side will rotate left

4. Clocking #1
Check to see that each time the title of the book is referenced it is properly formatted:

Make sure that all proper nouns are capitalized and that the character names are spelled right:

6. Clocking #3 Check to see that ALL quotation follow the MLA format:
“Quote” (Miller 23).  The period is OUTSIDE of the parenthesis
“Quote!” (Miller 23).  Exclamation marks and question marks stay INSIDE the quote, and the period goes on the OUTSIDE of the parenthesis

7. Clocking #4
Highlight any compound sentences used, check that each independent clause has a subject and a verb that are connected by a , FANBOYS OR a semicolon

8. Clocking #5
Put a => next to any paragraphs that are NOT indented

9. Sample Introduction
The Salem witchcraft trials will forever be regarded as one of the most infamous events in our history. Mass hysteria and false accusations between neighbors lead to the deaths of many innocent people. One man had the opportunity to end the frenzy, but let his own character flaws get in the way. Reverend Hale is to blame for the tragic events of Salem because of his self-importance, ignorance, and his failure to stand up for the victims.
