1 Glazing Not painting!

2 What is glaze? Glaze is made up of Silica which melts to form glass, Alumina which keeps the glass from flowing too much, and a Flux which allows the silica to melt at lower temperatures. The proportion of these ingredients, plus colorants and firing of the kiln affect the color and opacity of the glaze.

3 Glaze Steps Prepare Application Clean Bottom Clean up
Record glaze names on sketch Shake or stir glaze (glazes will stain) Don’t pour more than you need into a dish $$$ Application Don’t mix or overlap glazes Brush 2-3 coats evenly (let dry between coats) Clean finish at base and between glazes Clean Bottom Use a sponge to clean ANY glaze from the bottom Glaze on bottom = will NOT be fired Clean up Wash brushes and return to closet; store bristles UP Wash glaze off dishes and bottles Return glazes to correct shelf
