1 6 Kingdoms of all Organisms
Bacteria Protists Fungi Plants Animals

2 Bacteria Single-celled No Nucleus Can be Harmful or Helpful
Can only be seen with a microscope

3 Protists Single-celled or Multi-celled
Characteristics of plants, animals and or fungi Examples are algae, slime mold and amoebas

4 Fungi Single-celled or Multi-Celled Has a Nucleus
Gets nutrition by absorbing nutrients from decomposing organisms – Doesn’t make own food like plants Ex. Mushrooms Ex. Athlete’s Foot

5 Animals – Two Main Classes
Vertebrates - Backbone Invertebrates – No backbone Mammals Reptiles Fish Amphibians Birds Insects Worms Lobsters, Shrimp, Crabs Jellyfish

6 Mammals Give birth to live young (exception:Platypus) Have hair or fur
Nurse babies with milk Warm-blooded Tricky Mammals: Bats, Whales and Platypuses

7 Reptiles Cold-Blooded Scales Usually lay eggs
Ex. Snakes, turtles, alligators

8 Fish Live in water Lay eggs Cold-blooded
Use gills to breathe under water

9 Amphibians Cold-Blooded Moist Skin Live on land and water
Ex. Frogs, toads, salamanders, newts

10 Birds Warm-blooded Have feathers and wings
Usually fly (exceptions are penguins and ostriches) Lay eggs

11 Plants Vascular – tube transport system
Non-vascular – No tube transport system Use a vein-like or tube structure to suck in water and nutrients Can be large in size Can live further away from water source Ex. Roses, Oak Tree, Ferns No tube system to transport water Absorbs water directly from the ground Must live near water source Very small in size

12 Invertebrates Do not have a backbone
Ex. Worms, insects, jellyfish, lobsters, shrimp, crab

13 Non Vascular Plants No tubes to carry water or nutrients
Reproduce by using spores Examples are mosses, liverworts, and hornworts Many species are short and grow close to the ground

14 Vascular Plants and spore reproduction Ferns-They do not have seeds
Vascular Plants and spore reproduction Ferns-They do not have seeds. They use spores to reproduce.

15 Vascular Plants with seed reproduction
Angiosperm-Makes fruits and flowers Gymnosperm- no fruit or flowers, no seed cover

16 Angiosperm Makes fruits or flowers Most plants are angiosperms

17 Gymnosperms Conifers-Pines, spruces, firs

18 Gymnosperms Cycads
