2 Biography Solange Knowles was born on June 24, 1986 in Houston, Texas . As a child she studied dance and theater and began writing songs as early as the age nine . During her teenage years Solange started to pursue recording but was advised to wait by her father . Instead, she became a backup dancer for her older sisters group Destiny’s Child .

3 Biography (cont.) It didn't take long for Solange to come out from her sister's shadow to make a name for herself in both the music and fashion industries. When Solange was 16, her father, who was also her manager, signed her to his record company, Music World Entertainment. In 2002, she appeared on two major musical projects: Lil' Romeo's Game Time album and former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland's Simply Deep, for which Solange wrote the title track On February 27, 2004, a 17-year-old Solange married Daniel Smith Jr., who later became a football coach

4 Biograpy (cont..) Solange has been a spokesperson for African American women ever since she was younger. The “A Seat At The Table” album debuted in the year of 2016 and has songs that describes many experiences related to African American Women. Songs like “Cranes In The Sky” & “Don’t Touch My Hair” are all related to the empowerment of African American women.

6 Reflection Solange is the person I chose because she remained herself and she is a perfect representation of a strong black women. I also think her whole entire aesthetic and everything about herself is just unapologetic. Her whole vibe is just different from everyone else in the industry . The song I chose for Solange is “Don’t touch my hair” because it’s from an African American point of view and it represents African American women and honestly how they feel. Like..don’t touch my hair.
