Bellwork Directions: 1) Copy the sentence. 2) Correct the errors in the sentence. 3) Underline the words or phrases that provide clues to the meaning of the word in bold. 4) Come up with a definition for the word in bold. The shattered water made a misty din. Great waves looked over others coming in, And thought of doing something to the shore That water never did to land before. The clouds were low and hairy in the skies, Like locks blown forward in the gleam of eyes. You could not tell, and yet it looked as if The shore was lucky in being backed by cliff, The cliff in being backed by continent; It looked as if a night of dark intent Was coming, and not only a night, an age. How can a writer use imagery to effect change?
* Remember Writing goal #2: Write a persuasive essay that truly compels the reader to take action and thus changes the world in some way With tablemates, finish filling in analysis of “Sinners” Read another model. Following Edwards’s model, write your own persuasive speech (use powerful imagery!) Rehearse your speech with your tablemates (Read at least 4 times)
