Explanation of Concept and Key Words
Geometry is shapes. 2D Shapes are made of line segments. The 2D shapes include square, rectangle, triangle, circle, trapezoid, parallelogram and rhombus. 3D shapes are solid. They have faces or flat parts, edges where the flat parts meet, and vertices, where two edges meet. The 3D shapes are cylinder, cube, pyramid, sphere, rectangular prism, and cone.
3
Acute 2D Shapes Square: A square is 4 sided shape with equal sides and 4 right angles. Rectangle: A rectangle is a four-sided shape with two sets of parallel sides, and 4 right angles. Rhombus: A rhombus has four acute angles that makes it look like a diamond. It has 2 sets of parallel sides, and all of the sides are equal. Triangle: A triangle is mostly just half of a rhombus. Circle: A circle is a shape with no sides and no angles. Trapezoid: A trapezoid is quadrilateral with one set of parallel sides. Parallelogram: A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with 2 sets of parallel sides.

Acute 3D Shapes Cylinder: A cylinder is a 3D shape with 2 circle faces. It looks like a can. Cube: A cube has 6 square faces. It looks like a die. Pyramid: A pyramid has 5 faces. 3 are triangles and one is a square. It is shaped like the pyramids in Egypt. Sphere: A sphere is a 3D shapes with no faces, edges, or vertices. It is shaped like a ball. Rectangular Prism: A rectangular prism has 6 rectangular faces. It is shaped like a game box. Cone: A cone is a 3D shape with one square face. It is shaped like an ice cream cone.

Definitions Shape: A shape is line segments joined together.
Acute Definitions Shape: A shape is line segments joined together. Angle: An angle is two line segments joined together to make an angle. Acute angle: An acute angle is less than 90 degrees. Right angle: A right angle is exactly 90 degrees. Obtuse: An obtuse angle is more than 90 degrees.

Example Problems 1. Is a square a rectangle and a rhombus?
2.True or false, a trapezoid is part of the parallelogram family?
7
Example Problem Answers
A square has 2 sets of parallel sides, which makes it a parallelogram. A parallelogram that has equal sides is a rhombus, so a square is a rhombus. A rectangle is a parallelogram with 4 right angles. A square is too, so a square is also a rectangle. Parallelograms have 2 sets of parallelograms and trapezoids have one set of parallel sides, so no. A trapezoid is not part of the parallelogram family.
