2 Yesterday, you marked each others work, using the mark criteria.
Starter activity: Yesterday, you marked each others work, using the mark criteria. On your graphs in your books, plot the mark onto your progress chart where it says ‘mock 1’. Bands equate to the following grades: Band 6- A Band 5-B Band 4-C Band 3-D LO1: Understand how to explore media language: forms and conventions. Peer marking Yesterday you wrote an exam style question on mise-en-scene. Swap books with the person yesterday, use the mark criteria to give them a band. You are using A01 and A02. Write a comment, using language from the criteria to tell them why they achieved that band. LO1: Understand how to explore media language: forms and conventions. We have now looked at the four elements we will be analysing in terms of the forms and conventions in television crime drama. Those 4 elements are: Narrative Character Setting Mise-en-scene LO1: Understand how to explore media language: forms and conventions. 5 Recap: What is mise-en-scene?
Discuss on your tables what mise-en-scene is and what it can tell us about the programme. Extension: Think of specific examples. LO1: Understand how to explore media language: forms and conventions. LO2: Be able to answer an essay style question on media forms and conventions

6 Mise-en-scene Yesterday, we analysed the mise-en-scene for both sherlock and midsomer murders. We are now going to do the same for appropriate adult. Stick the picture into your books and use the guide questions to help you annotate round the outside. You are looking at: Body language, positioning, setting, props and characters. 7 Similarities and differences
In question 1 of your exam, you will be expected to answer a question using your knowledge of television crime drama. This may be a question concerning forms and conventions, therefore you must show you understand how the elements help create different styles of programmes, within television crime drama. What is meant by different styles? Discuss on tables and decide what style you think each of the programmes we have watched are. LO1: Understand how to explore media language: forms and conventions. 8 Written task The three programmes watched so far have clear similarities and differences. Using your notes, fill in the table in depth and detail, using specific examples from each three series. 9 Writing task Using the table you just created, answer the question below. The question is an example of what you may find for question 1, therefore you must spend 25 minutes writing the answer for it. How do the forms and conventions of television crime dramas, effect the style of the show? LO1: Understand how to explore media language: forms and conventions. 10 Peer assessment Now swap books with the person next to you and read through the answer they have just written. Using your mark criteria (focusing on A01), give them a grade for the question and also give a comment for both of the below, with an example from their work: WWW- Tell them why you have given them that grade, using language from the mark criteria ( Level 5 (B)- Knowledgeable, demonstrating engagement with course material ‘There are two main forms of narrative you can find in television crime drama. One is a 2 part drama, where the crime is told and solved over the space of more than one episode, for example appropriate adult’. EBI- Give them constructive criticism to how they could improve their grade, to achieve the grade above. LO1: Understand how to explore media language: forms and conventions.
