Students will write one paragraph on how fossils give us information on the past.

4 Fossils are the remains of animals and plants, or the record of their presence, preserved in the rocks of the Earth.

You are now a part of an archeological dig. Look at the following pictures of items that were found and deter-mine what type of society used these items.

6 Types of societies 1. Hunter-gatherer 2. Farming 3. Fishing

7 What does this look like? What could it be made out of?

They would use shells for clothing decoration and trading.

17 A farming society would use a bone hoe to plant crops and baskets to harvest them.

18 We can use fossils to determine what kind of societies existed in the past. By examining these finds, we can learn more about the history of our land and the people who lived here.
