2 We’ve Heard a Lot about Love
“Can’t buy my Love! -The Beatles “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” -Jennifer Lopez “Love Will Keep Us Together!” -Captain & Tennille “Love Takes Time” -Mariah Carey

3 The Greeks The Greeks had several words for love, including:
AGAPE = Selfless, unconditional love EROS = Erotic, romantic love (conditional on attraction) PHILIA = Familial/Fraternal love (conditional on relationship)

4 Identify the Love Kara loves her brother Tony, even if he frequently annoys her. Samuel is in love with his beautiful girlfriend Christina. Jonathan loves his mother and always will. Jesus told his disciples to love their enemies. Katie can’t believe she found such a sweet and wonderful husband in Henry. God loves Israel despite their worship of foreign Gods. Joshua is frustrated with his brother, but knows he will always love him. Karen works at a homeless shelter because she sees the value of humans regardless of what they can offer her.

5 Identify the Love Philia Eros Agape Phila

6 Create Your Own Examples!
With a partner, create 8 of your own examples of Agape, Eros, and Philia. Make sure that you have at least 2 of each kind! When students are done, have them put random examples on the board and have the class as a whole identify

7 Unconditional The Love that God calls us to is Agape. In other words Christian Love is unconditional, which means that God will love us regardless of what we do. However, while the love is always offered, accepting God’s love does come with certain expectations—including living a life that passes God’s love to others, unconditionally.

8 How do we live a life of Love?
Perhaps St. Paul put it best when he put it this way: “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
