In Financially Tight Times: Academic technology does not save money, but Academic technology is no longer a major expense, as long as we keep our eyes on Goals and opportunities, and relevant Strategies and tactics

Goals High quality teaching and learning Creative and productive faculty and staff Strong teaching and research Adequate support, including robust and accessible connectivity

Opportunities Shed creeping distractions Review emphases in budget Renew understanding of core mission Affirm special strengths Invite visions of the future

Strategies Cut to emphasize mission Invest to support goals Invite some faculty/staff to retire/move on Engage many groups in planning Insist on future vision -- no hunkering down

Tactics Cut strategically, not across the board Tie cuts to vision of the future Seek new collaborations/economies of scale Involve key stakeholders
