1 USING TABLE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS
EOC TEST STRATEGY- DAY 13 USING TABLE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS

2 TEST STRATEGIES FOR LINEAR RATE OF CHANGE
1). Recognize key terms & formats for linear rate of change. 2). Identify whether a problem will use linear rate of change. 3). Read the table to find the linear rate of change. 4). Read the table to find the linear rate of change w/out incremental change in x. 5). Read the table to find the linear rate of change between specified pts. 6). Interpret rate of change in context 7). Extend table to find equation 8). Use calculator to find equation. 9). Interpret the constant & coefficient. 10). Finding specific range value for a given domain value & vise versa.

3 TEST STRATEGY: USE TABLE ON CALCULATOR
Once we have an equation, we can use the calculator to find specified values. Type equation in “Y=“ Identify if we are given x or y value. Type “2nd” “GRAPH” to get the table Read the table for the answer

4 EXAMPLE #13.1 – identify x & y first!
The function C(x) = 0.05x models Shelly’s total monthly phone bill when she talks for x minutes in the month. What is Shelly’s phone bill for 300 minutes?

5 EXAMPLE#13.2 – identify x & y first!
A pizza restaurant charges a flat fee for a plain cheese pizza. There is an extra charge for any additional toppings. The cost of a pizza can be determined from the function C(m) = 0.5m + 5, where m is the number of additional toppings and C(m) is the cost of the pizza ordered. If the C(m) = $7.50, how many toppings were ordered? Why don’t we use “TABLE SET” for this one?

6 You Try: (wkst #13) *Identify the variables. *Choose the “Y=” and “Table” to answer the question.

7 Check it # The function V(t) = 30,000 – 2,900t models the value of a car t years after it was purchased. What is V(4) and what does it represent?

8 CHECK IT #13.4 The function f(x) = 4.12x is used to predict the height of a tree (in feet) x years after a fire. What is the approximate value of f(7) for the function and what does it mean?

9 CHECK IT #13.5 The function f(x)= 3x + 25 models the yearly membership cost for a movie rental club, where x is the number of movies rented. Last year, Sarah rented 41 movies. Last year, Tim rented twice the amount of movies as Sarah. How much more did Tim pay last year than Sarah?
