1 The Persuasive Essay The writer takes a position FOR or AGAINST an issue and writes to convince readers to understand their point of view. Utilizes logic and reason to strengthen the argument. The writer provides solid evidence by stating facts, giving logical reasons, using examples, and quoting evidence from sources.

2 Plagiarism is taking the work/words or ideas of someone else and passing them off as your own. You must always cite the sources from where you get your information to avoid plagiarising from someone else. Any text you write must include a Works Cited where all of your sources are listed.

When referring to somebody’s words or ideas from a printed or video source. Using information obtained through interviewing someone. Copying exact phrases. Using any statistic or data. When writing about your own experiences or thoughts. When you are using “common knowledge”-- things that are commonly known about the subject.

6 A Paraphrase is... Your own version of essential information and ideas expressed by someone else, presented in a new form. One way to borrow information from a source. A more detailed restatement than a summary because it discusses everything included in the original text. A translation using your own words.

7 How to Paraphrase Read over the section you want to paraphrase.
Write the same information in your own words. Revisit the text source and see if you left out any important information.
