Just a Few Things Before We Start…
No need to take notes, although you can if you like. You will be provided with a sheet that contains the website information on it as well (if not please ask me for one.) When you are ready, take a few seconds to fill out the student information sheet in front of you please. By the end, if there are any questions I have not answered, please me!

A Little Bit About Me… I graduated from the University of Texas here in Austin with a B.A. in mathematics and completion of the UTeach program. I completed my student teaching here at Bowie High School. I worked as a math tutor at Mathnasium for a year. This is my second year teaching and my second year here at Bowie. Aside from teaching, I spend a lot of my time with my two dogs at home.

My Goals for this Class Work on remediation with students. This helps everyone stay on track and enables students to continue working on a skill until it has been deemed mastered! Get all students to a passing grade on the EOC. Help support students in building skills they can use throughout life, not just mathematics. Organization Responsibility Self-Awareness Etc.
5
Block Schedule… It can be challenging at first, and sometimes difficult to remember which day it even is. Luckily, students will be attending this Algebra 1 class every day! There is more time to come in for help and more time to complete homework! The activities are longer to obtain practice and help with retention! There is in class time to correct and remediate quizzes and tests. There are less classes to focus on from day to day!
6
Grading Policy… Homework will be 15% of their grade.
If students are doing the homework then they will be in good shape. There will not be point deductions for missing work, and students have 3 school calendar days to turn it in (for up to a 70). Students also have until the day of the test to turn ANYTHING in for up to a 50. There are two prezzie grades included in this. Quizzes and notebook checks will be 25% of their grade. There will be several quizzes each six weeks. There will only be one binder check at the end of each six weeks. Tests will be 60% of their grade. There will be 2 to 3 tests each six weeks. The six weeks test will give the students a chance to drop their lowest grade.
7
Objective Based Grading
Each objective of each test will be graded separately. On each test, some objectives (1-2) will be considered as MUST KNOWs. These must be passed or remediated until passed students will have an incomplete for the test until the concept has been mastered. Every other objective on each test will be a supporting objective. This process allows for constant improvement and highlights concepts in Algebra 1 that are more often used in regards to EOC testing and future math courses as well!
8
Remediation Process If a student receives below passing on a MUST KNOW, then they must complete: Test Corrections (only questions from that objective) All home works from that objective must be complete Students will be required to watch a video (from iTutoring or Khan Academy) over the objective. If a student receives a passing but not perfect grade on a MUST KNOW, then they have the option to complete the above process. Once the remediation process is complete, a short quiz over that objective will be taken. Students who received a below passing grade can get up to an 85 back (a high B). Students who received a passing but not perfect grade can get up to a 100 back (an A). If a student ever receives a 0 on an objective, they did not attempt the objective and must rely on their six weeks test grade to make up the grade.

Tutoring Times… One thing we will be focusing on in class this year is social development. This includes organizational skills and responsibility. I will do my best to encourage students to ask questions and look for help when they need it. My tutoring hours are… 4:30-5:10 every afternoon. Even then, students are more than welcome to make an appointment with me at a different time, so there are many options. Students may sign up for FIT. This occurs every Tuesday and Wednesday after their first class. I will also be signing students up for my FIT class.
