2. The Allies Meet and Debate
The post WW1 meetings were handled by vast amounts of countries BUT there were 4 key players driving the decisions
Woodrow Wilson (U.S)
Georges Clemenceau (France)
David Lloyd George (GB)
Vittorio Orlando (Italy)
Russia unrepresented due to civil war

3. In Jan when WW! Was still being fought Woodrow Wilson drew up peace proposals known as the 14 points.
Proposed ending secret treaties, freedom of seas, free trade, reduced worldwide militaries
Another was deciding disputes between colonies (this will usher the concept of self determination)

4. The 14th point was a hope that a general association of nations would be created to protect and preserve worldwide peace
France and Great Britain were not fond of this plan and wanted to focus on increasing their own militaries and punishing Germany
Debate will ensue and out of it will come the Treaty of Versailles (July 28, 1919)

5. This treaty will create the “League of Nations”
Treaty will also punish Germany
Lost territory
Near disassembling the military
Article 231 “War Guilt Clause” (placed soul blame of WW1 on Germany)
Pay reparations

6. A Troubled Treaty
The treaty of Versailles was 1 of 5 treaties signed at this convention.
Ottoman Empire, Austria Hungary, and Bulgaria will be forced to sign treaties that will reduce their land holdings, military, and overall influence.
United States will reject the treaty of Versailles
Most Americans wanted isolationism at this point in history.

7. The Article 231 (war guilt clause) will leave Germany bitter and with hatred
The Germany economy will be bankrupt
German army depleted
German people desperate
Will give rise to one individual who will become the man of the people and the new voice for Germany
