1 Nets of Solids or Convex Polyhedrons
Section 6.2

2 Learning Goal We will use our knowledge of the characteristics of solids so that we can match a convex polyhedron to its net. We’ll know we’ve got it when we’re able to create a net for a given solid.

3 Vocabulary Convex Polyhedron Net Nonconvex (or Concave) Polyhedron
(Line) Segment

4 Quick Reminder A polyhedron is a solid formed by polygons. They have edges, vertices and faces. There are two types of polyhedrons: prisms and pyramids.

5 Convex Polyhedrons Contains all line segments connecting any two vertices (corners) within it Every face of a convex polyhedron can be laid out on a flat surface

6 Nonconvex (Concave) Polyhedrons
Has at least one line segment connecting two vertices (corners) outside it

7 Nets The net of a polyhedron is the 2-dimensional plane figure we get when the surfaces of the solid are laid out flat (unfolded).

8 Possible Nets of a Triangular Prism

9 Possible Nets of a Square Pyramid
