No Running, wrestling, or horseplay in or around the shop.
Do not work with tools that you have not received instruction on.
Use tools for their intended purpose.
Store personal items including projects in designated areas.

When lifting heavy objects use proper lifting techniques. Have someone help you if it is needed.
Keep the floor clean of scraps, trash, and liquids.
All tools are to be properly cleaned and returned to the toolboxes after use.
Do not use makeshift ladders such as chairs, tables, or boxes.

Any equipment that needs to be repaired should be reported immediately to the instructor.
Report any accidents or injuries to the instructor immediately.
Tools, materials, etc should not be left protruding over the edge of the workbench or table.
Never leave a vise unattended with material clamped into it so that it is hazardous to people walking by.

Caution any other students you see violating a safety rule or report them to the instructor.
Ask your teacher to approve all work you plan to do.

Be sure your clothes are safe and suitable for shop work and keep hair away from equipment in operation.
Use a brush or piece of wood to clear away dry chips and use a rag to clean oily surfaces

9. Hand Tool Safety Select the proper tool for the job.
Make sure the tool is clean and in good working condition before using it.
Dull cutting tools should be sharpened.
Always check the attachment of head to handle on tools such as hammers and hatchets.
Give full attention to your job at hand

10. Hand Tool Safety
Be sure material to be worked on is clamped or supported before starting.
Use the proper size wrenches for the job and “pull don’t push”.
Properly grind off mushroomed heads on chisels and punches to prevent injury.
When using a knife or other sharp tool, always point the edge away from yourself and not towards other students.

Be sure your hands are free of dirt, grease, oil when using tools.
Pass tools to classmates with the handles first

12. Power Tool Safety
Obtain permission from your teacher before using any power equipment.
Check adjustments on the machine before turning on the power.
Make sure that all other students are clear of the machine before turning on the power.
Stay clear of machines that are being operated.

5. Keep hands away from all the moving parts. Never attempt to slow or stop a machine with your hand

Always turn off the power before oiling, cleaning, adjusting, or unclogging power machinery
Power machinery must never be used with the guards removed
Select the correct power tool for the job
Gloves should not be worn when operating power tools

15. Power Tool Safety
Turn the power off immediately whenever a machine appears to be operating improperly and notify the instructor.
After turning off power tools, stay at the machine until it has completely stopped.
When using a power drill always secure the material being drilled.
When using a grinder adjust the tool rest, shields, and guards before starting work.

16. Flammable Liquid Safety
Store gasoline in a fireproof room or cabinet
All finishing materials and solvent are to be kept in metal cans and locked up
All finishing materials and solvents should be used outside the shop or in a well ventilated area.

17. Flammable Liquid Safety
4. Rags with oil, solvent, finish, etc. Should be kept in metal containers.
5. Know where the fire extinguishers are located and how to properly use them.
6. Dispose of flammable liquids properly.
