4 Rhetorical Modes: Exemplification
Exemplification is a rhetorical mode in which the author illustrates an abstract idea by providing an extended example (or several examples) of that idea. Sometimes authors will use individual characters to exemplify arguments/ideas/themes in their works. Entire books can serve as an exemplification of a major abstract idea.

6 Rhetorical Modes: Compare/Contrast
Compare/Contrast is a rhetorical mode in which the similarities and differences between two or more ideas is explored to present an argument. Juxtaposition: placing two ideas, events, characters, images, etc next to each other in order to highlight the differences between them.
