Page 231 Objective: To transform summaries and other people’s words into a narrative form. Question: How do you turn short summaries into short narratives, or story, scenes?

Share your answer with your elbow partner for two minutes. Regroup!

5 Character Portrait: Annie Jump Cannon
If you have not done so already, finish the character portrait (Stick Figure) for Annie Jump Cannon. Based off of the articles that we have read in class and the Cosmos video, what are Annie Jump Cannon’s character traits?

6 Multiple Media: Five Step Process
Using the Character Portrait, let’s try and rephrase the summaries in first person from Annie Jump Cannon’s perspective.

Instructions: On page 241 of your Journals, do the following: Find an image of your subject’s work space or place of residence. If your subject is a doctor, found out what his or her hospital looked like. If he or she is a scientist, try to find a picture of his or her lab. Create a chart for nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Fill this out for the image that you have found. Write a scene setting based off of the image that is at least four sentences long.

Create dialogue of what Annie Jump Cannon and other people are saying. 2. Write down what Annie Jump Cannon is thinking or feeling. 3. Explain why Annie Jump Cannon would talk or act this way during an exchange of dialogue.

In Class Work for Today Adding Dialogue: Independent Research (Page 242) Instructions: Create three scenarios in which your subject interacts with another person, or is having a conversation with him or herself. For each scenario: Create a title for the scenario Create dialogue of what your subject and other people are saying, or would say. Write down what your subject is thinking or feeling. Explain why your subject would talk or act this way during an exchange of dialogue.

Included are instructions on how to structure your narrative: Write your rough draft on this piece of paper Write your scene setting of where your subject is narrating the scene from (From Setting The Scene-Independent Research on page 241) Think of this as a flashback, if your scene setting is different from Put narrations from Five Step Process: Independent Research (Page 237) into chronological order Add dialogue from Adding Dialogue: Independent Research (Page 242) in between different sections of the narrations Add more details, dialogue, and/or narrative where needed
