Swampy land was a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes & disease
Lacked good farmland
Hardships: many weren’t willing to work, hunger, winter of was ‘starving time’
Strict rules, need for government

4. Solutions Grew tobacco/using the swampy land

Founders- William Bradford
People- Separatists who wanted to separate from the Church of England and common people; they would become known as Pilgrims
Reasons for Colonization- Religious freedom for the Separatist
Government-Believed in the principles of self-government established by the Mayflower Compact

Harsh winter weather
Lack of food, malnutrition and disease

Wrote Mayflower Compact/social contract to keep colony together
Native Americans taught the Pilgrims to live off the land
Ship builders/ fishing
Traded with Natives
