9 To solve an equation means to find every number that makes the equation true.
We do this by using the inverse operation to isolate the variable so that we can solve for the variable. Remember to always keep the equation balanced!

In the equation, 7 added to a number gives 15… Solving the equation means, finding the value of the variable that makes the equation true. Let’s go back to the balance

We have to know what operation(s) must be done to solve it, and work it out carefully.

17 Steps for solving one-step equations
Step 1- Start with the side of the equation where you find the variable. Step 2- Use the inverse operation (opposite operation) to isolate the variable (get the variable by itself). Step 3- Perform this same operation on the other side! Step 4- Solve for the variable.
