TEKS Second Grade “Geometry and measurement. The student applies mathematical process standards to analyze attributes of two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional solids to develop generalizations about their properties. The student is expected to: (A) identify two-dimensional shapes, including circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares as special rectangles; (B) identify three-dimensional solids, including cylinders, cones, spheres, and cubes, in the real world; (C) identify two-dimensional components of three-dimensional objects; (D) identify attributes of two-dimensional shapes using informal and formal geometric language interchangeably; (E) classify and sort a variety of regular and irregular two- and three-dimensional figures regardless of orientation or size; and (F) create two-dimensional shapes using a variety of materials and drawings”

Transformation Definition: A transformation moves a figure to a new position without changing its shape or size.
4
Translation – Moves a figure in a straight direction.
Examples Translation – Moves a figure in a straight direction. Reflection – Reflection of a figure gives it a mirror image over a line. Glide Reflection – A translation followed by a reflection. Rotation – Moves a figure about a point.

6
Translation Definition: A transformation of the plane to itself such that every point P in the plane has an image P’=MN,PP||MN, and the direction from the P to P’ is the same as M to N.
7
Example A child going down a slide without twisting or turning.
