Carbon capturing Ways to separate Mixtures into Compounds Distillation Separates Carbon from other Matter Carbon Separates matter. Substance Chemical Properties Form of Matter Matter that can’t be separated into anything else. Chemical description of Matter Element Form of matter that can’t be separated. Matter Physical description of Matter Chemical combination of two diff. matters. Physical Properties Form of matter that can be chemically separated Physical combination of two diff. matters. The way the brain begins to understands things is by making connections. It is hard to recall any information that is not connected to another piece of information. A good tool to use to strengthen connections between pieces of information and to see the “big picture” is to concept map. As a group, rearrange the text boxes above and connect them with a arrow shape where ever there is a connection. Be organized and concise. Add in a text to explain the arrows or connections that you make. When you are done, see if you can add in any information like examples or pictures to the concept map. When it is 100% complete and beautiful, save it and upload it to the classes Google Drive. Chemical Compound Mixture An example of a compound Mixture that is evenly distributed. Mixture that can be physically brought apart. Water H20 Heterogeneous Mixture Homogeneous Mixture

16 Hōkūle’a Worldwide Voyage: Save THE CREW water project!
In your groups, Imagine that you are part of the crew that is currently sailing across the world on the Hōkūle’a. Your group was in charge of calculating the amount of fresh water needed for one leg of the voyage. BUT YOU CALCULATED WRONG because you have not yet taken Mr. Soriano's Chemistry Class. Design and implement a strategy to make fresh drinking water so your crew can get to port safe and sound!

17 Hōkūle’a Worldwide Voyage: Save THE CREW water project!
Goal: Design and implement a strategy to make fresh drinking water so your crew can get to port safe and sound! Guidelines: Must make at least 100ml of fresh water using ocean water as the source. The simpler the design the better! (EXC) Remember you are on a double haul canoe in the middle of the open ocean! Sketch your design and describe the function of each component You must perform your technique in class or record your group doing it outside of class. Must show evidence! Use all of the vocabulary words that we have discussed in class in the write up. (See the write up guidelines for the complete requirements for the write up)

19 Turn in: IPCs. It should have a table of contents, pages and completed assignments clearly labeled and organized, and your name clearly written on the front cover 3 Week reflection Make sure your drinking water plan is stamped and that you are ready to perform it this weekend or on Monday AND BE READY TO REPORT OUT ON MONDAY!!! Homework: Hokulea drinking water write up (check the guidelines in the handouts section on the website)
