1. The US Legal System
Your goal is to create a three-fold pamphlet introducing a newly naturalized citizen to the legal system of the United States. The information found on pages in Street Law will be your resource. Your pamphlet must include the following:
An illustrated, colored title page
A brief explanation of the civil and criminal justice system in the US, including our basis for deciding guilt or innocence.
A basic outline of the US government’s operations structure.
An explanation of the Constitution (focusing specifically on how it provides for the rights of individuals and state). Be sure to include information regarding our “limited government” and what safeguards we have against any branch becoming too powerful.
Definitions (underlined or highlighted) of the following terms: criminal law, felony, misdemeanor, civil law, defendant, plaintiff, prosecutor, “beyond a reasonable doubt”, preponderance of evidence, separation of powers, judicial review, checks and balances, Bill of Rights (may be located throughout pamphlet)
At least three colored illustrations, not including the title page.
**Assignment will be graded based on the quality/completeness of information included, and will be based on the four-point scale. In order to receive a “4” work must be neat and organized, and must display some creativity in formatting.

2. Constitutional Framework Activity
Your mission, should you choose to accept it (and even if you don’t)... Along with a partner, you will need to create a visual representation / explanation of the structural framework of the United States government. You may use symbols, arrows, etc…, but you may not use any words other than the title and the required vocabulary. By looking at your images, a viewer should be able to understand the function / purpose / job of each required element.
Your visual representation must include “visual explanations” of the following elements, which must be titled: Constitution, Law, Separation of Powers, Legislative, Executive, Judicial, Checks and Balances, Veto, Judicial Review, Bill of Rights, Federalism, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Citizen
