Introduction to co-incidence
The concept of co-incidence is more commonly known than irony. However it can still be difficult to define.

What is co-incidence? There are many different definitions of co-incidence, but a simple definition is : Co-incidence is when two seemingly related events happen at the same time, but actually have no connection or reason. Co-incidence can occur at any time, with no clear reason to explain why.

Here is an example of co-incidence that may help to explain exactly what it is: -Koh Tao story (when I first came to Thailand)

Co-incidence in humour
Co-incidence plays a key part in a lot of comedy due to the confusion and humorous situations it can create. We will look at some examples in a famous episode of British comedy in a future exercise.

Co-incidence and irony
Sometimes co-incidence can occur in situations with irony at the same time. It is often confusing where the co-incidence ends and the irony begins. Listen to this story that contains both: -The story from a previous EN102 co-incidence class Can you figure out which part of the story is the co-incidence and which is the irony?
