To know the conventions/ingredients of an essay. To understand how to write these conventions/ingredients in a group essay. Thesis: Video games (do not) have a negative effect on youth. As a class, let’s brainstorm some ideas about the negative effects of video games. You will write an essay as a group. This is to help you understand how to structure an essay before you start writing one. Thursday, we have the computer lab booked. To be able to reflect on how you will organize and write your individual essay topics using the conventions/ingredients of an essay effectively. In your brainstorms, you must have the following: Thesis statement Possible hooks Possible points (think of 3-5 points) Possible evidence for each point (which websites may help you; any background knowledge you already know, etc.) Explain the importance of the evidence Before you start, let’s look through the writing frame. Making “inferences” and finding the “main idea” when reading a text is very important. Tomorrow, you will be starting to find research for your essay topics. Therefore, you’re going to have to find information by making inferences and find the main idea to texts. Also, the grade 12 teachers are seeing that their students are having difficulty doing this. 9 Consolidation Do you feel ok about what we have to do tomorrow?
Tomorrow will be a little difficult as most of you do not have log-ins. Please be patient with me and with the system. I’ll give you a generic log-ins, so that you can do research at least. Bring a USB if you have one, so you can save your work. Yahoo s don’t work very well with the TDSB.
