A Complete Sentence Must have a subject and a verb
Must express a complete thought Must contain the correct punctuation Subject + Verb = Complete Thought= Complete Sentence

Run-ons (R.O.) A run-on contains two independent clauses combined without proper punctuation (or two sentences in one). Example (comma splice/connected) The sun was peeking over the horizon, the new day was dawning. Corrected: The sun was peeking over the horizon; the new day was dawning. Corrected: The sun was peeking over the horizon as the new day was dawning.

Parallel Structure With the –ing verb (gerund) of words:
Parallel: Mary likes hiking, swimming, and bicycling. NOT: Mary likes hiking, swimming, and to bike. With infinitive (to + verb) phrases: to run to jump

Misplaced Modifier (M.M.)
Adverbs, adjectives, clauses, and phrases that are in the wrong place Example On her way home, Jan found a gold man’s watch. The man was gold?! Corrected: On her way home, Jan found a man’s gold watch.

Effective Topic Sentence (T. S.)
Does it stick to a main idea? Do the rest of the sentences in the paragraph support or refer back to it? Does it start with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation mark? Topic Sentence (claim) Supporting Detail #1 Supporting Detail #2 Supporting Detail #3 Conclusion
