Why are they so reactive?
Alkali metals These are metals in group 1 of the periodic table. They are never found free in nature as they are so reactive. Their activity increases as you go down the group. Why are they so reactive?

Properties of Alkali metals
Physical Chemical Soft. Silver in colour. Less dense than water. Very reactive so stored under oil. Form white oxides with oxygen. Form hydroxides with water and also release hydrogen.

Uses of Alkali metals Lithium is used in batteries
Sodium is used in street lights. Potassium in compound form is in fertilisers.
