Chapter 12 Review Add-On Pre-Algebra
2
Problem-Solving 3.5 ft. Mrs. Fisher is redecorating the outside of her house. She needs new siding for her home and also a new roof. Determine how much area she will need to cover so she can get costs from the siding and roofing companies. Assume the triangle is an isosceles triangle. 16 ft. 9 ft. 36 ft. 12 ft.
3
Answer: Remember, find the Surface area of the rectangle and triangle. Find the area of the rectangle on the bottom of the triangle and the top of the rectangle and subtract them from the total. 1200 ft.2
4
Problem-Solving 3.5 ft. Mrs. Fisher now needs to estimate about how much this will cost. The estimator uses the rate of $34 per square foot to estimate the labor for the siding. The use the rate of $28 per square foot for the roof. What will the labor cost Mrs. Fisher for this project? 16 ft. 9 ft. 36 ft. 12 ft.

Answer: Be careful! Think about a house! You need to calculate the sides of the rectangle, not the bottom or top, as well as the triangle bases area for the siding. Siding Cost= $32, 232 Total area to be covered: 948 ft.2 So… 948 * $34= 32,232 For the roof, you need to only find the area of the two rectangles on the top. Make sure to check your work carefully. Roofing Cost= $7, 056 Total Area to be covered: 252 ft.2 So… 252 * $28=7, 056

What is the surface area of the triangular prism on top
What is the surface area of the triangular prism on top? You may have to do this in a couple steps.
13
To solve this, find the triangle bases area and double since there are 2. Then find the two rectangles. Assume they are equal since only numbers provided would be the bottom rectangle of the triangle. Answer: 161 ft.2
14
What is the volume of the rectangular prism on the bottom?
