2. Comparing Real Numbers
To compare and order real numbers:
FIRST APPROXIMATE IRRATIONAL NUMBERS AS DECIMALS
Example: Compare ⍜ 3+ 5
Estimate and 5
3 is between 1 and 2
5 is between 2 and 3
3 +5 is between 6 and 7
is between 5 and 6
So, 𝟑 +𝟓>𝟑+ 𝟓

4. Ordering Real Numbers To compare and order real numbers:
FIRST APPROXIMATE IRRATIONAL NUMBERS AS DECIMALS
Example: Order 22 , 𝜋+1, and from least to greatest
22 is between 4 and 5, so it is 4.something
22−16 25−16 = 6 9 = 2 3 =0. 6 ≈0.7
So, 22 ≈4.7, 𝜋+1≈4.14, =4.5
The numbers in order (as they would appear on the number line) are:
𝜋+1, , and 22
