HOMEWORK: - Chapter 5 Homework Packet Assigned (due Monday, Nov. 5) - “A Closer Look at Land Biomes” Worksheet assigned (due Fri., Nov. 2) - Read Chapter 5, Lessons 1 and 2 (to be ready for class tomorrow) Warm-up: Look around the classroom. With the members of your table group, list the living and non-living things in this classroom (at least 3 non-living things….there are many).

Objective: SWBAT demonstrate the ability to recognize that the world is divided into large climatic regions by discussing components of and influencing factors of biomes.

Our new topic in science is……
ECOSYSTEMS AND BIOMES!!!!!!!!! An ecosystem is all the living and non-living things in an area. Our classroom can be an example of an ecosystem. What are some examples of living and non-living things in our classroom? ?

Population – a group of organisms of one species living in an area at the same time.
- What populations live in our classroom ecosystem (HINT: there are two)

Community – all the populations in an area.
What does the community in our classroom consist of? Humans and fish

Niche – the role an organism has in an ecosystem. The organism’s job.

Relationships among organisms keep the ecosystem balanced.

Biome – a large ecosystem with similar climate and organisms.
Temperate Rainforest Wet, cool climate; mosses cover rocks Plants: maple, spruce Animals: elk, cougar, bears, squirrels, raccoons, owls West coast of North America, far Southern Tip of West Coast of South America, and other places.
