2. sUbject
SUBJECT- Any common noun, proper noun, or pronoun the verb acts upon. A subject can be presented in two ways: a simple subject or a complete subject. Simple Subject: The girl likes to play. (girl) Complete Subject: The kind police officer helped at the accident. (kind police officer)

3. Predicate
Predicate- The verb, or verb phrase, that acts upon the subject of a sentence. The predicate can be displayed two ways: a simple predicate or a complete predicate. Simple Predicate: He bought and apple. (bought) Complete Predicate: He continuously thought of ideas. (continuously thought of ideas)

4. How to find Subjects
The subject is usually found at the start of a sentence. You should The verb, or verb phrase, that acts upon the subject of a sentence. You should then identify any prepositional phrases in the sentences and eliminate any nouns or pronouns in that prepositional phrase. The subject will never be a part of a prepositional phrase. Then, you should look for the noun that the sentence is describing. For example, in a sentence that says “Sally is driving a car” you would see that the sentence is describing Sally. So, the subject of the sentence would therefore be Sally.

5. How to find a predicate
The predicate is usually found after a subject. You should first identify the subject and ask “what?” The answer to that question should be a predicate. For example, in a sentence that says “David plays soccer,” the subject is David. So, you would ask yourself “what is David doing?” Since David is playing soccer, you would say that the predicate is “playing soccer.”
