Tuesday, April 16, 2013 Today: Begin Chapter 30 - Optics
Lab Activity - Experimenting with lenses Objective: Observe ways that lenses refract light and bring objects into focus to form various images. Announcement: LHS needs more students to sign up for AP Physics in order for the class to happen. Please urge anyone that might be interested to see their counselor or Mr. Kipp to sign up.

Interesting facts: No one is really sure who invented eyeglasses, but they existed by the mid- 1200s. In the years that soon followed, they were considered only a luxury owned only by the wealthy. Ben Franklin invented bifocals in the late 1700s. The invention of the printing press (considered one of the most important modern inventions ever), actually spurred the production and wide use of reading glasses.

Today's Lab: Optics Shortened class periods today, use time wisely. Use Chapter 30 of your text (optics). Lab groups of 4 people. Keep your metrics organized (m, cm, mm). Note: the "object" for part 1, is the large image at the front of the room. Be careful with the glass lenses! Replacement costs are $10/each. Turn in your assignment from yesterday if you haven't already. You may democratically choose which of the three following objects to focus on...
