1 How Low to Go With Lipid-Lowering Therapies in a Cost-effective and Prudent Manner
Rhanderson Cardoso, MD, Roger S. Blumenthal, MD, Stephen Kopecky, MD, Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, MD, MSc, Seth S. Martin, MD, MHS  Mayo Clinic Proceedings  Volume 94, Issue 4, Pages (April 2019) DOI: /j.mayocp Copyright © 2018 Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research Terms and Conditions

2 Figure 1 The reduction in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) with lipid-lowering agents depends on baseline LDL-C level and the potency of therapy. A similar reduction in LDL-C of 40 mg/dL (1 mmol/L) can be achieved with ezetimibe if the baseline LDL-C level is 160 mg/dL (4 mmol/L) or with a high-potency statin if baseline LDL-C is 80 mg/dL (2 mmol/L). 3 Figure 2 Two patients with similar degrees of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol reduction (40 mg/dL or 1 mmol/L) and relative risk reduction (25%). Patient A has a baseline risk of 20% and achieved an absolute risk reduction (ARR) of 5%. Patient B has a baseline risk of 4% and achieved an ARR of 1%.
