Lesson 44 Cell Cycle
2
Activator Has your body changed in the past six months?
How did you recognize this change? Are you taller? Did your hair grow? Did you clip your toenails? Has anyone broken a bone recently? How does your body repair itself? Explain your answers
3
The Cell Cycle How do we grow? Our cells divide over and over again
During the cell cycle, a cell grows, prepares for division, and divides into two new cells These new cells are called daughter cells Process begins again
4
Three Main Stages in Cell Division
Stage 1: Interphase Stage 2: mitosis Stage 3: Cytokinesis Looking at the diagram-what stage does a cell spend most of it’s life?
5
First Stage: Interphase
Period before cell division Cell growth Makes a copy of it’s DNA And prepares to divide into two cells
6
First Stage: Interphase
Growing Grows to full size Makes new ribosomes and produces enzymes Copies are made of mitochondria and chloroplast Copying DNA DNA replication 23 chromosomes 46 Chromosomes Preparing for Division Creates centrioles (structure that pulls apart chromosomes)
