Only hears appeals from lower courts

4. Trial Courts
Hear original cases, criminal and civil cases between private parties

5. Interpreting Laws/Ensuring Justice
Enforce constitutional laws, statutory laws-passed by the General Assembly, case law- court interpretations of written laws
Protect citizens from abuses by government by ensuring that each citizen has “due process of law”
