1 Welcome To Academic Math 2
Course Description : The state high school mathematical standards address six conceptual categories that provide a coherent view of college-prep mathematics – Numbers Theory, Algebra, Functions, Geometry(Modeling), and Statistics & Probability. The courses are designed to spiral through these categories in increasing levels of depth and rigor. Specifically developing the following mathematical skills: Making sense of problems and persevere in solving them, reason abstractly and quantitatively, construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, model with mathematics, use appropriate tools strategically, attend to precision, look for and make use of structure, and finally look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. In Math 1, students were introduced to high school mathematical skills mentioned above and the 21st century application rigor associated with it. Math 2 builds on this foundation and starts to explore the mathematical underpinnings of things learned in the first course. In Math 2, students will begin to expand upon the basic foundations of the underlying mathematics in terms of mathematical proofs and applications. Following this course, students will move to Math 3, which will continue the spiraling through the six categories with advanced topics and the mastering of proofs as well as application interpretation and creating.
