Point of View (POV) = is the voice that tells a story
Definition: Point of View (POV) = is the voice that tells a story There are FOUR basic types of Point of View

FIRST PERSON – major character
Main character tells the story Uses “I” Makes the reader’s connection to the narrator more personal, intimate Is this narrator reliable?

FIRST PERSON – minor character
Minor character tells the story Uses “I” Gives the sense of observing the main action as a bystander

THIRD PERSON – limited A narrator tells the story
Does not use “I”, but “he”, “she”, “they,” etc. Single perspective – thoughts and feelings of only one character are revealed

THIRD PERSON – omniscient (all-knowing)
A narrator tells the story Does not use “I”, but “he”, “she”, “they,” etc. Multiple perspectives – thoughts and feelings of numerous characters may be revealed
