1 Day 4 – Honors Prepositions and Annotations

2 Objectives Demonstrate an understanding of prepositions.
Analyze a work of fiction for author’s point of view and understand the connotation v. denotation. Homework: Google classroom grammar lecture (I will check notes on Monday) All school supplies (including Kleenex) must be turned in Monday Constructed response on “The Time Factor”

5 Prepositions Quiz Clear your desks of everything except a pen/pencil.
I will hand out the quiz. I have given you the first letter of each word. You will be given 10 minutes to fill out the quiz. Upon completion, flip the paper over. MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS AT THE TOP.

6 Prepositions Quiz Check
Swap papers with your partner from yesterday. No Talking. Take out a pen that is a different color. ONLY MARK THE CORRECT ONES. Write how many are correct at the top. Write “Checked By: [Your Name]”

8 Partner Expectations Always stay on task.
Only talk about current topic. Be attentive and helpful. Pull your own weight. If these cannot be met, we cannot work in pairs.

9 Partner Reading Get into your pairs. Read and annotate “The Time Factor.” Read together and annotate your own copy of the passage. Focus on author’s purpose when annotating. Remember, do not only highlight. When finished, answer the three discussion questions on the back. Your answers must be in complete sentences.

10 Planning ahead is a measure of class.
The rich and even the middle class plan for future generations, but the poor can plan ahead only a few weeks or days. What does Steinem say about class? Do you agree with Steinem’s view of the relationship between time and class?

11 Retrieve your laptops and go to Google Classroom
Retrieve your laptops and go to Google Classroom. Complete the constructed response assignment. You must upload the finished document as a google doc. For a header write: Your Name Block Number CR #1 Date When finished, take the student technology survey that pops up when you open Chrome.

12 Constructed Response You may discuss this with your
Upload a constructed response analyzing the first paragraph of “The Time Factor.” Do you agree with Steinem’s view of the relationship between time and class? Your response must be at least one paragraph. It must include: Thesis: Introductory Statement identifying the main point Reference Detail I Elaboration, Signification, Explanation Reference Detail II Elaboration ,Significance, Explanation Synthesis: Conclude by connecting all ideas. You may discuss this with your partner but you must write your own copy

13 Closure 3, 2, 1 Write three things you learned today. Write two sentences containing prepositional phrases (put them in parenthesis). Draw a book cover for your autobiography.
