DNA Replication Copying of DNA to produce new molecules with the same base sequence.

Steps of DNA Replication
DNA is unzipped Helicase: enzyme that breaks the hydrogen bonds between the original strands of DNA Original Strand acts as a template DNA Polymerase: enzyme that carry out DNA replication by adding the free nucleotides to the new strand. Proofreading occurs during this step making sure A pairs with T and C pairs with G. Daughter DNA molecules rewind into a double helix. Each strand contains one original and one new strand.

Replication Fork The replication fork is created by helicase and is the location of the split strands. DNA is always synthesized in the 5’ to 3’ direction
